Oktoberfest 2026

From 19 September to 4 October 2026, Munich will once again come alive for the 191st Oktoberfest at Theresienwiese. Millions of visitors will gather to enjoy Bavarian traditions, live music, gastronomy, entertainment and the unmistakable atmosphere of one of the world's most famous festivals.

First celebrated in 1810, the event began as a royal wedding celebration for Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. More than two centuries later, it has evolved into a global celebration of Bavarian culture, bringing together people from different countries around shared experiences.

What to Expect in 2026

The festivities officially begin on 19 September with the traditional arrival of the festival landlords and breweries. At noon, Munich's Lord Mayor taps the first barrel at the Schottenhamel tent and declares “O'zapft is!”, marking the official opening.

The opening weekend features some of the most iconic traditions, including the Traditional Costume and Riflemen's Parade on 20 September, with thousands of participants, musicians, traditional costumes and decorated carriages.

Throughout the following weeks, visitors can enjoy family days, live performances and the traditional open-air concert on 27 September. The celebrations conclude on 4 October with the traditional Böllerschießen beneath the Bavaria statue.

Beyond the programme, the festival offers 17 large and 21 small beer tents, traditional Bavarian cuisine and a wide selection of fairground attractions.
